Published on August 21, 2026

The Financial Accounting Standards Board has appointed Hillary H. Salo as its next chair, a move seen by CFO Alliance CEO Nick Araco as a signal of regulatory continuity and predictability for finance professionals. Salo’s deep roots within FASB suggest a consistent approach to accounting standards, despite potential political pressures.

FASB Appoints New Chair

As reported by CFO Dive, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) has announced Hillary H. Salo will succeed Richard Jones as its next chair, effective July 1, 2027. Salo, who previously served as FASB vice chair and technical director, brings extensive experience from both within the organization and her background as a former KPMG audit partner.

Predictability Valued by CFO Alliance

Nick Araco Jr., CEO of the CFO Alliance, highlighted the significance of Salo's appointment for finance leaders. "She isn’t a surprise pick," Araco told CFO Dive, noting her long-standing role in steering FASB's technical agenda and chairing the Emerging Issues Task Force. He emphasized that for CFO Alliance members, "that predictability is worth more than people realize when you’re trying to plan multi-year compliance work."

Araco further commented that while Salo's Big Four background doesn't necessarily mean an easier path for companies' financial report preparers, he expects her to bring an awareness of cost to rulemaking while advancing investor-driven disclosures. He also expressed hope for greater accommodation for mid-market and private companies regarding new standard demands under her leadership.
